I see nothing wrong with Akua Donkor’s Italy trip - Ablakwa

Deputy Minister of Education, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa has lashed out at the opposition party for criticizing the inclusion of the founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party, Akua Donkor in President John Dramani Mahama’s entourage to Italy.

According to him, the extent at which the debate has gone is unbearable adding that Akua Donkor’s inclusion shows how concern the president is when it comes to women empowerment regardless of her status.

“I have been very disappointed; so sad; so distressed on the attack on the old woman; she doesn’t speak English…do they speak English in Italy; is English the official language in Italy…so those who are not educated can’t benefit from the tax payers money?

“Why should we take issue with somebody because we think somebody does not fit into a particular status…this is democracy” he said on Accra based Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhaji Saturday.

Akua Donkor was part of President Mahama’s entourage that visited Italy for an official engagement about a week ago.

Pictures emerging from the trip show Akua Donkor competing for space with Ministers of state like Ekwow Spio Gabrah (Trade and Industry); Fiifi Kwetey (Food and Agriculture) and some institutional heads like Dr. Stephen Opuni of Cocobod and Kwadwo Twum Boafo of Free Zones Board.

Her inclusion has generated controversy across the country with many asking how the nation will benefit from her involvement in governmental affairs.
