The New Patriotic
Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo has donated an amount of GH₵ 5000 to
over 50 displaced Sodom and Gomorrah residents who had no money to go back
home.
The displaced
residents earlier massed up at Akufo-Addo’s residence seeking for financial
assistance to go back home following alleged neglect by the government.
The NPP flag
bearer said he was touched by the plight of the residents hence the decision to
donate an amount of GH₵ 5000 to cover their transportation cost.
The party’s
National Womens’ Organiser, Otiko Afisa Djaba also said arrangements had been
made to provide food for the residents “so that they can eat whilst on their
journey back home".
For their
part, the displaced residents claim the Mahama-led government was
being discriminatory in the relocation of residents adding that members of the
NDC were being given preferential treatment to the disadvantage of perceived
political opponents.
They therefore
expressed gratitude to Nana Akufo-Addo for coming to their aid and gave him the
assurance that, he will be President of Ghana because of his kindheartedness.
The residents
were rendered homeless following the demolition exercise at Sodom and Gomorrah.
The exercise was undertaken to pave way for the dredging of the Korle Lagoon to
prevent needless flooding in the capital.
