Players of defending Ghana Premier
League Champions were attacked by armed men on Saturday, just hours before
their match against rivals Accra Hearts of Oak, reports indicate.
Ahead of the big match, the attack
is reported to have taken place at the Tadoma hotel in Achimota where the team
is based ahead of the game.
Some players and officials of the
club are believed to have been assaulted in the attack although it is unclear
if any of them sustained serious injuries.
An official
said "systematic stealing took place and the robbers had
machetes, knives and other weapons and made away with the valuables of the
players and officials".
The club is yet to release a
statement on the incident but it is expected to do so in the coming hours.
There has been no word as yet on the
status of the assailants but there are indications that they got away before
they could be arrested.
However, information says the team
has decided to go ahead with the much-awaited clash with Hearts at the Accra
Sports Stadium which kicks off at 3:30pm.
The occurrence they say will not have any impact on today's match.
The players are still preparing for the clash.
