VIDEO: CPP to pull out of 2016 elections if...

The Convention Peoples Party is likely to pull out of this year's general elections if Ghana's Electoral Commission refuses to reduce filing fees for both Parliamentary and Presidential Candidates.

It came out last Thursday after the Electoral Commission's meeting with the Inter-Party Advisory Committee(IPAC) that Presidential and Parliamentary Candidates of various political parties are expected to pay a sum of GH¢50,000 and GH¢10,000 as filing fees respectively.

Many of Ghana's opposition parties have raised red flags at the decision and have pleaded with the Commission to reduce the amount.

Meanwhile, ruling party National Democratic Congress' General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia has said the amount is a peanut for them.

Meanwhile, Flagbearer of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) Mr. Ivor Kwabena Greenstreet says if EC fails to reduce the filing fees of both Presidential and Parliamentary candidates for this year's election, the CPP will have no option than to pull out of the contest because the party cannot afford such amount.

Mr.  Greenstreet speaking on Kofi TV says the over 100% increment in the the fees will effect a lot of the political party's.

He sighted that supposing the amount remains the same,  his party is expected to pay about GH¢2million for filing fees alone which it can't afford.

Apparently, the Electoral Commission has said it will come out on whether to reduce the amount or maintain it.

Below is their interview.
