PHOTOS: AKOSOMBO FLOOD_Schools go on holiday



A four year old girl is reported drowned at Akosombo after few hours of heavy downpour.


Akosombo is located in a valley in the Eastern part of Ghana. In this community is one of Ghana's biggest Dam which provides bigger hydroelectric power turbines. 

Wisdom Abbey, an eyewitness reports that two girls, four and five years were swooped by the floods but the residents were able to rescue one of them.


Meanwhile, personnel from the Ghana Police Service and National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) have been to the scene.

Market women at Akosombo Market were not left out by the rain; many of them have lost their goods to the rain.
But they believe the flood was preventable.



Abraham Amanor, a resident of Akosombo says authorities of Akosombo International School has given the children holiday over as a result of the flood.

According to Abraham, some of the classrooms and offices in the school are flooded.

He says almost the entire township have been submerged by the flood.
