DCE ‘pepper sprays’ NDC executives

Joseph Omari, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kwahu South District

District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kwahu South District in the Eastern Region is alleged to have released a substance believed to be ‘pepper spray’ on his executives at his office Thursday.

About four constituency executives who were affected by the act of Joseph Omari are reported to be receiving treatment at the hospital after the incident was reported to the Mpraeso Police station.

Speaking on an Accra based radio station Friday; the National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency organizer for the area, Smart Nkansah said the executives had gone to the DCE to enquire about an upcoming working tour to the area by the Eastern regional minister when a scuffle ensued, leading to the attack.

He indicated that they have no issue with the DCE but quickly added that some executives have not been on good terms with him and therefore was not certain if that compelled the DCE to commit that act.

"The pepper spray was in his office drawer...it is due to his ill motives that’s why he has a pepper spray hidden in his drawer. Nobody provoked him.

"When we went there, he was with a certain man and he gave us the permission to come in. As soon as the man left, he (the DCE) began to shout at us and decided to walk us out of his office. When we decided to have a talk with him, he immediately removed the pepper spray…he started spraying it and those closest to him were most affected,” he recounted.

He however accused the DCE of abandoning party members in the constituency but this notwithstanding he noted did not deter them from having a good relationship with him.

“We are very cool with the DCE though we are not too happy about his behavior but we tried as much as possible to have a very good relationship skill with him but we still don’t understand why he committed that act” he said.
